10 Tips for Fitness Success

10 tips for fitness success

There’s no denying it, having fitness success can prove extremely challenging. Keeping up with your motivation can be tough and as a result it is easy to become disheartened on your fitness journey.

We’ve listed our top 10 tips for fitness success, to help get you and keep you on track.

SPICE IT UP

There’s no denying it, even at the best of times, things can feel a tad mundane. Trying to stick to an exercise routine & your fitness goals becomes incredibly difficult if you’re bored with your workouts. You need to keep them fresh and inspirational. This not only works well for your mind, but also for your muscles too. You’ll work different areas of your body in contrasting ways, ensuring fabulous all-round fitness. Try different styles, alternate between HIIT, Yoga and Barre.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Your decisions and actions may be influenced by other people, but ultimately, your choices are yours to make. You need to believe in yourself when you make them. Trust your instincts, decide what it is you want to achieve, and know that if you set your mind to it you have the capabilities to get to where you want to. You need to be happy with you. This means something different to everyone and is a different journey for everyone. Surround yourself with people who support you in your plans. Take as much time as you need to do what you want to do, and enjoy the process.

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY

There is nothing more important than listening to your body. You will have days where you feel like a superhero, and days where rolling out of bed seems a struggle. Sometimes it can feel like there is no rhyme or reason as to why. It might be the weather, hormones, emotions, quality of sleep, the list is endless. Tailor your workout accordingly. It doesn’t matter if you had a specific workout already planned, if your body hasn’t woken up feeling it, you can adapt and work to your energy capacity. Any exercise is good exercise. Be proud of yourself for whatever you achieve, whether it’s a 15 min wakeup yoga session, or a 10k run. Your day-to-day exercise is there to make you feel good, physically and mentally. As a result, you will build a sustainable and manageable healthy lifestyle.

SET YOURSELF MINI GOALS

Sometimes the end result that you are aiming for can feel overwhelming, or so far in the distance that it seems unachievable. If this is the case, focusing on that one “all-important” goal can sometimes be de-motivational, exactly what you don’t need. Try breaking down your end goal into mini-goals, set yourself mini-targets to hit, either each day or each week. This way you’ll notice your fabulous achievements along your fitness journey. You’ll enjoy the ride, and once you’ve smashed one mini-goal, you’ll feel inspired to go for the next one.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t know where to begin with your fitness routine? Worried you’ll do the wrong thing, or maybe you’re nervous of what other people will think? Just keep it simple. Don’t rush your workout and don’t feel you need to be the fastest or strongest. Everyone is different, everyone has their own goals to focus on. Make your exercise routine work for you, because that’s the only person you need to worry about when you’re sweating it out.

WORK WITH YOUR NATURAL BODY CLOCK

You don’t have to work out at 6am! Set a time that works for you and stick with it daily. Routine is everything. If you are an early bird, this will be when you want to slot in your cardio & strength training. You may find a more relaxing yoga class at the end of your day also works well. If you’re a fan of the snooze button, you might prefer some Pilates to ease you into your day and you can aim for a more intense workout mid-way through your day. Good planning will be sure to help with your fitness success.

TURN THE VOLUME UP

You know that feeling you get when you find a favourite or memorable piece of music and you turn the volume way up?! It can evoke all types of emotions in us and can be so good for helping us to release our feelings and any pent up emotions. What a fabulously natural healing process. Music is essential in our lives, use it for inspiration, use it to cleanse your tears, use it to release your anger, use it to realise love. Get those headphones out, get those tunes on, turn up the volume, and then move your body! Walk, dance, run, jump, lunge, sway. Whatever gets your heart pumping and helps you to feel truly ALIVE. Use the music to motivate your exercise, however it best works for you. Experience what you need to emotionally in that moment. Take a moment to really listen to your body and mind and how you feel afterwards.

FIND THE FUN

If you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?! Never take yourself too seriously, especially when you’re working out. Yes, focus on your form and technique so that you avoid injury and gain maximum benefit from the exercises. But if something is jiggling around that you feel maybe shouldn’t be, or your face looks like a tomato, who cares?! LAUGH, ENJOY and BE HUMAN. Because that’s what we are, and we should learn to accept us for being us. It doesn’t matter if you can’t do a full press up or get your leg around your head. Enjoy the process of your attempts that you make, and just be you.

CHALLENGE MEANS CHANGE

Nobody said it was going to be easy, and if it were, would you really enjoy it as much?

The things we really strive for in life, the long-term goals that take commitment and perseverance to achieve, those are the things we value most, the things we remember. They help us to feel pride in our actions, a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. So don’t aim too low or be short-sighted about what you want. Set the bar high and go out and get to where you want to be. Put the work in, the blood, sweat and yes, sometimes the tears. Push yourself to be the very best version of yourself that you can be. Show the world what you’re made of, and don’t give up when the going gets tough. You’re worth the effort.

FITNESS FRIENDS

Going it alone can be incredibly tough. We need that little bit of a helping hand, the gentle (or not so gentle) motivation, someone to sweat with, whinge with, and most definitely to laugh with. Fitness friends might not be your bestest buddy, but they will be someone who you feel comfortable sharing encouragement with. Somebody who inspires you to work harder because you can see how hard they work. Someone who you can chat all things fitness to without them rolling their eyes and zoning out at your levels of passion. Having a fitness friend will make all the difference to your staying power in achieving your fitness success.
